How to create custom user groups in 3D Experience

Summary

These are instructions on how administrators for 3D Experience can create security groups and then implement to shares like collaborative spaces

Body

Description

User groups are helpful to give individuals permissions to several items at once, like collaborative spaces for certain classes.

Note: You can only add individuals to a user group after they have set up their accounts and logged in to 3D Experience at least once.

Resolution

First create the user group.

  1.  Go to Social and Collaborative Apps (top icon on compass), scroll down on the left pane then click on User Groups
  2. Select + New Group, add a Name and Description,  if all the individuals have set up their accounts you can import the users all at once with a .csv file (view the sample to know format to make your own .csv file)
  3. If you don’t want to create a .csv file and import users all at once then hit Create
  4. After you create the user groups you can select on the group in the middle panel and hit the add member button (the icon with the person and + sign), type in the name of the individual you want to add, then hit add.

Once you create a group and add members you can now attach the group to a collaborative space so that all the people in that group will have access to that space.

  1. Go to Social and Collaborative Apps (top icon on compass), scroll down on the left pane then click on 3D Space
  2. Select My Collaborative Spaces, then click on the down arrow on the collaborative space, hit add member
  3. In the window that pops up click on the Add group(s) tab
  4. Next to Contributor type in the name of the group you want to have access to that collab space, hit add group(s)
