If you've already applied for admission and/or been admitted, you can update your major by going to wichita.edu/update.

If you have not enrolled, please click here to find out how to change your major (Undergraduate and Graduate students).

If you are a currently enrolled student, you are allowed to change your major or minor up to three (3) times per semester. To do so, or to add or drop a minor, please follow these steps:

  1. Log into your myWSU portal
  2. Go to the Home tab
  3. Click on Change My Major/Minor located in the Student Tools box

Student Tools > Change My Major/Minor option

Note: Changes to your major or minor may take up to three business days. You will receive a confirmation email when completed.

If you are graduating in the current semester and are enrolled for the upcoming semester, you should receive a letter indicating that you need to change your major. You will need to follow the steps above and choose a new major. If you do not complete this step, you will automatically be changed to a non-degree bound status which can affect financial aid, however, you will not be dropped from your courses.

Unable to make changes to major/minor
There are some instances when you cannot change your major or minor, including the following:

  • New students who have not enrolled in classes will need to contact the appropriate Admissions office to change your major
  • Filed an Application For Degree (AFD)
  • Do not meet the GPA requirements for the requested college/major
  • Have been academically dismissed
  • Need to reactivate student account with the Registrar’s Office
  • Change to a professional program (i.e. Nursing, Social Work) - This type of change can only be made by an advisor in the college or academic department
  • Change to an online major
  • Students whose previous enrollment was only non-degree (college guest, non-degree open admissions, non-degree regular admissions, high school guest) must apply through Admissions for degree-bound admission
