Body
If you fail to meet SAP standards during the evaluation process, you will be placed on financial aid suspension but have the opportunity to appeal your suspension. This information will be available in your Financial Aid Dashboard under the Satisfactory Academic Progress tab. You can click on the V to expand the box to view additional information about your SAP status.
How to file a SAP appeal
If extenuating circumstances prevented you from meeting the financial aid Satisfactory Academic Progress requirements, you may appeal the suspension. To file an appeal, complete the SAP Appeal Application at wichita.edu/sapappeal and turn it into the Financial Aid Office. You have approximately two (2) weeks after the start of classes during the fall semester, spring semester, or summer term to submit your appeal for the following semester. Appeals received after the deadline will be held for the following semester. For specific priority dates and final deadlines per semester, please reference the appeal application at wichita.edu/sapappeal.
Requirements
- You must submit an academic plan with your appeal application. This shows what additional courses you must take to graduate and/or correct your SAP deficiency.
- You must have an academic advisor's signature on the academic plan.
- Submit a detailed explanation of your circumstances that prohibited you from meeting SAP. Include what steps you have taken or will take to address the circumstances that prohibited you from meeting SAP and how you will manage similar circumstances in the future.
- Submit documentation or supporting letters to confirm your circumstances (e.g. letter from physician or counselor, medical bills, death certificate, military orders, court documents, etc.).
Notification of decision
You will be notified of the appeal decision either by email or paper communication. Typically, a decision is made within three weeks once all SAP appeal documentation has been submitted. Appeals submitted in July, August and January may take up to four weeks to process, and your aid may be delayed.
Does being on SAP suspension mean that I am dismissed?
No. Being on SAP suspension does not mean you are dismissed from Wichita State University.
Can I still get my loans if I am on SAP suspension?
Failure to maintain SAP standards for federal financial aid will result in financial aid suspension and the loss of all federal aid eligibility, which includes loans, grants and work study.
If I am on financial aid probation/suspension at my current school, will I be on probation/suspension if I transfer to WSU?
In some cases, yes. All transfer credit hours recorded by the WSU Registrar’s Office will be evaluated when monitoring completion of attempted credit hours (PACE), cumulative GPA, and maximum time frame. Failure to maintain SAP criteria for federal financial aid will result in financial aid suspension and the loss of federal aid eligibility.
