Listed below is information to assist you in reading your WSU transcript. For a complete explanation of WSU transcripts, click here.
Institutional work
Institutional work shows each course taken at WSU (department, catalog number and description), the number of credit hours, the grade and the grade points earned for each course. Only graded hours (A, B, C, D and F) will count in the Grade Point Average (GPA) calculation. In addition to graded hours, there may also be other indicators of your enrollment as shown below:
AU = Audit (no credit and no grade points earned)
I = Incomplete
IP = In Progress
W = Withdrawn from class after 100% refund period (has no effect on GPA)
NGS = No Grade Submitted by instructor
Each semester there are faculty members who miss the deadline to submit final grades. When this happens, the grading system defaults to NGS and this is what is listed on the transcript. The instructor will need to submit an online change of grade. Please note: Most instructors know they missed the deadline and have or will submit change of grades so you may want to give them a few weeks to submit the change before contacting them.
Instead of a letter grade, some courses are considered Credit/No Credit which have no effect on a GPA and have these indicators:
CRE = Credit by examination or by credentials
CR = Credit is given (A, B, or C) but no grade points
NCR = Passing grade was not earned and the course may need to be repeated
ZCR = Passing grade earned, but the hours will not count toward graduation
Note: ZCR for remedial classes like Math and English will allow you to move up to the next level available for the subject.
P = Passing work (B, C, or D); credit is given but no grade points
S = Satisfactory (A, B, or C); credit is given but no grade points
U = Unsatisfactory (D or F); no credit given and no grade points
Note: Grade points and quality points are the same thing
Transfer Work
Transfer work appears first on the transcript.
The transcript will show courses transferred from another institution preceded by the letter “T” for Transfer and the grade earned.
If a transfer course is equivalent to a WSU course, it will be posted as the WSU subject, course number, and title. If it is not equivalent to a WSU course, it will be posted with the subject and the number 2000 (100 and 200 level courses) or 4000 (300 or 400 level); the title will contain the subject, number and title from the transfer school.
Repeated Courses
If a course is repeated, there will be a letter on the right hand side:
E = Excluded from the GPA calculation
I = Included in the GPA calculation
A = Averaged into the GPA

GPA
Both the official and unofficial transcript list three GPAs for each student which appear at the end of the transcript:
- Institution = courses completed at WSU
- Transfer = courses taken at other institutions
- Overall = cumulative for all courses taken at WSU and transfer work
