Why did I get a 1098-T? What do I use this for?

Body

The Form 1098-T is an IRS (Internal Revenue Service) form provided to students who enroll in classes at a college/university. It supplies a portion of the information needed by taxpayers to claim the Hope and Lifetime tax credits. Wichita State University does not offer tax advice and encourages students to check with their tax preparer for further details.

NOTES:

  • IRS requires WSU to provide a 1098-T for all students, including Kansas residents 60 and older auditors.
    • KS residents 60 and older will receive a 1098-T for any classes they enroll in or audit, including exercise classes and classes taken through aging living facilities.
  • If you are a non-resident alien (international student without a SSN), keep the 1098-T and do NOT enter any data from the 1098-T into GLACIER Tax Prep. You should not throw away or return the form, simply keep it with your tax files.
