Are immunizations required to enroll at Wichita State University?

Body

Immunizations are not required for students unless they are living in campus housing. All first time housing residents must submit proof of vaccination against meningitis or a meningitis waiver. To meet the vaccination requirement, you must have at least one dose of meningitis ACYW vaccine on or after your 16th birthday or a signed waiver.

There is a Meningitis waiver option for those with medical, religious or other exemptions pertaining to immunizations.

If you have not received the meningitis vaccination and wish to do so, the vaccine is available through Student Health Services. Other immunizations are not required.

However, to help provide a healthy environment for all students at WSU and to prevent and control potential outbreaks of contagious diseases, we strongly advise students submit proof of the following recommended vaccination for college students:

  • Two doses of MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) vaccine after 12 months of age
  • Td booster or Tdap (tetanus) vaccine within the past ten years - Oral Polio vaccine series
  • Three Hepatitis B vaccines
  • Varicella (chickenpox) vaccine series
  • Bacterial meningitis vaccination

We also recommend the Gardasil vaccination series for both males and females and annual seasonal influenza vaccination. All of these vaccinations are available through Student Health Services.
