Is health insurance required for international students?

Body

Wichita State University requires all international students to have insurance (see Policy 8.08). Enrolling in classes will update your student account with the insurance charge.

The University has partnered with ECI Services. The University will submit your name to ECI and you will receive communication through your @shockers.wichita.edu email regarding the insurance portal called elev834.

We encourage you to take action by enrolling in the medical insurance plan offered through UnitedHealthcare every semester or submit a waiver request if you have qualifying insurance from another provider. By enrolling in the plan as soon as possible, you will be able to obtain your insurance card for any of your medical needs.

NOTE: GTA/GRA/GSA students with qualifying appointment will apply for coverage through a separate process and a waiver is not required. These students can disregard this communication. If you have questions about the GTA/GRA/GSA Health Insurance, please contact the Graduate School at 316-978-3095, option 2.

You may visit https://www.wichita.edu/admissions/international/medicalinsurance.php for information about:

  • The plan benefits for UnitedHealthcare insurance
  • How to print your UnitedHealthcare insurance card
  • Coverage requirements if you wish to use another medical insurance provider
  • Medical evacuation and repatriation policy information
  • And more

If you have insurance from your own provider, you may submit an insurance waiver request by following the instructions at http://wichita.edu/insurancewaivers
