Overview
Our records indicate that your classes for the most recent academic term have already ended. Because we received your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) after the end of the term, we are unable to offer you federal financial aid at this time. Federal regulations require that aid be processed while you are actively enrolled.
What Is a Valid FAFSA?
A FAFSA is considered valid when it has successfully processed and includes a calculated Student Aid Index (SAI). A FAFSA that is rejected does not meet this requirement. Only a valid FAFSA allows our office to determine your eligibility for federal financial aid programs such as the Pell Grant or federal student loans.
Next Steps Based on Enrollment
Your eligibility for aid depends on when you enroll in future terms:
- Fall Term: If your FAFSA was submitted after the Fall term ended, you may be eligible for federal aid once you are enrolled in Spring or Summer classes.
- Spring Term: If your FAFSA was submitted after the Spring term ended, you may be eligible for a Pell Grant once you are enrolled in Summer classes.
Once you are enrolled in the next available term, please allow up to three weeks for your federal aid eligibility to be reviewed and offered. This review ensures compliance with federal regulations and verifies your enrollment status.
If You Cannot Enroll Due to an Overdue Balance
Students who are unable to register for new classes because of an outstanding balance have several options:
- Pay your balance to be below $2,000. You can view your balance and make payments through your myWSU Account in the Student Account Suite.
- Set up a payment arrangement. Contact Accounts Receivable to discuss options.
- Apply for a private or alternative loan. Wichita State University students can explore lenders through ELMSelect, which provides information about loan programs used by other WSU students.
Important Notes About Aid Eligibility
- Pell Grant eligibility requires that you establish academic engagement in all classes included in your Pell Grant offer. This means you must actively participate in coursework, such as attending classes, submitting assignments, or engaging in online learning activities.
- Federal loan eligibility requires successful completion of half-time enrollment. Additionally, federal loans must be originated prior to the end of the Spring term.
These requirements are set by federal regulations and are strictly enforced to ensure compliance.
