Use of Classroom Technology Equipment

Technology equipment in classrooms and labs is funded with a combination of funds from Academic Affairs, individual colleges, and student fees. The purpose of the equipment is to support instruction for all credit-bearing courses. When not in use, classroom equipment may be used for other official University purposes by University employees. Due to liability and accessibility concerns, only University employees may use media technology equipment in classrooms and labs at this time.

Any University employee may obtain the necessary keys and training at no cost in order to use the media equipment in classrooms by attending one of the group sessions scheduled near the start of each Fall and Spring semester, or by submitting a request for an individual training session.

Recognized Student Organizations (RSO) who wish to use the classroom media equipment are encouraged to work with their faculty/staff sponsor to provide them access during their meeting or event. If this presents a logistical/practical problem, the Rhatigan Student Center maintains several meeting rooms for large and small events, and are provided free of charge to RSO groups. If an RSO meets in a classroom or lab and does not have a faculty/staff sponsor for their event, the Media Resources Center can unlock and turn on the equipment for a $15 service fee. Request that service by submitting a ticket on this system.

Alternatively, RSOs and University employees can check out media equipment over the counter. Most equipment, including projectors, is offered at no charge. You can reserve equipment online by visiting wichita.edu/av.

For individuals, groups, companies, and other parties not directly affiliated with the University, there is a $98/day fee for use of the media technology equipment in a classroom or lab. This fee applies even if you have a University employee who is willing to provide access to the equipment for you. If access needs to be provided to the media equipment by the Media Resources Center, there will be a $15 service fee to unlock and turn on the equipment.

University Departments who are using classrooms and labs for the purpose of generating RU income (i.e., charging admission or registration to conferences, lectures, etc.) are also subject to a $98/day fee per room for use of the media technology equipment. (This does not apply to a department using a room controlled/funded exclusively by their own department.) Please plan accordingly when setting admission/registration prices.
