If I'm in high school, how can I become a dual-enrolled student?

Students who attend Wichita State University before graduation from high school are considered High School Guest students.

Requirements
In order to be a high school guest student at WSU, you must:

  • Have completed your sophomore year
  • Have at least a 3.00 high school cumulative GPA
  • Apply for admission and pay the application fee by visiting wichita.edu/apply and selecting the Undergraduate Non-degree application then High School Guest option or by visiting www.wichita.edu/hsguest and downloading the High School Guest Application (PDF)
  • Submit your official high school transcript including the semester immediately prior to the semester of guest enrollment (sent directly to WSU from high school)

Exceptions may be requested by a high school counselor for students who do not meet these requirements by submitting the following:

  • Guest Student Exception Form
  • Copy of current class schedule

High school guests may take up to six (6) credit hours each semester. Students wanting to take more than six (6) hours must seek permission from the Office of Admissions. Admission to WSU does not constitute permission by an academic department to take courses; all prerequisites for a course must be met before the student enrolls. Students who are admitted as a high school guest are NOT guaranteed degree-bound admission after high school graduation.

If you are a returning High School Guest student, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Maintain a 2.00 WSU cumulative GPA to renew as a guest student for subsequent semesters
  • Submit a new application for high school guest admission (see instructions above)
  • Submit an updated high school transcript to the Office of Admissions

Deadline
The admissions deadline for high school guest students is approximately one week prior to the first day of classes each semester. For specific dates please visit wichita.edu/hsguest.

International Students
There are different requirements and deadlines for students wanting to participate in the High School Guest Program who are in the United States as part of a Foreign Exchange Program. You must be admitted through the Office of International Admissions, please contact them directly at international@wichita.edu or 316-978-3232.

Concurrent Enrollment
WSU offers a concurrent enrollment program that allows eligible students the opportunity to earn college credit for courses taken at their high schools and taught by their teachers. There is a reduced tuition rate of $100 per course for concurrent enrollment courses. There is also a one-time admission application fee due at the time of enrollment. Requirements for concurrent enrollment are:

  • Be enrolled in a concurrent enrollment approved course at your high school
  • Be a sophomore, junior, or senior in high school
  • Have a 3.00 or higher cumulative high school GPA
  • Apply for concurrent enrollment by speaking with the WSU representative when we visit your high school
  • Meet any prerequisites for specific courses
  • If any WSU classes have been taken previously, have a cumulative WSU GPA of 2.00 or higher
