As an international student, can I enroll in online course(s) or an online degree program?

International students residing in the United States with an F-1 visa are subject to USCIS regulations. Those who reside abroad and are not on a U.S. student visa may qualify to enroll in an online program. If you reside in a country where the U.S. has enforced a trade embargo, you are not eligible to apply. For more information about these specific circumstances, contact online@wichita.edu.

Online Course
Undergraduate students must enroll in a minimum of 12 credit hours each semester. Graduate students without an assistantship must enroll in at least 9 credit hours (or enroll in 6 credit hours with an assistantship). You may count only one distance learning class of up to 3 credit hours each semester as part of the minimum requirement. All remaining classes that count toward the minimum requirement must be regular classes that have a physical attendance requirement. You may also take distance learning classes in excess of the required minimum number of credit hours. Distance learning courses are courses that “do not require the student’s physical attendance for classes, examinations or other purposes integral to completion of the class.”

Online Degree
Distance learning courses are courses that “do not require the student’s physical attendance for classes, examinations or other purposes integral to completion of the class.” As a result graduate and undergraduate students residing in the U.S. with an F-1 visa are not eligible for online programs.
