What are my options if my parent's PLUS loan is denied?

If the Parent PLUS loan application is declined due to adverse credit history, the Office of Financial Aid will offer additional unsubsidized loans to the student, not to exceed an additional $4,000 per year for a freshman or sophomore and $5,000 per year for a junior or senior student. The student will be notified via email of the offer and will need to accept the additional unsubsidized loans through their myWSU portal in order for the funds to disburse.

If, after the initial Parent PLUS loan denial, the parent would still like to secure PLUS funding (rather than the student receiving the additional unsubsidized loan), the parent can pursue the option of obtaining an endorser for the loan or seek a credit appeal with the Department of Education. Go to https://studentaid.gov/appeal-credit to view additional details.
