What is Wichita State University's Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) policy?

Federal regulations require the Office of Financial Aid to monitor the academic progress of all students applying for federal financial aid. All financial aid applicants will be reviewed for Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) at least annually, typically at the end of each spring semester.

SAP for federal financial aid is based on three measurements

  1. Percent of attempted credit hours completed (PACE)
    a. You must complete 67% of your attempted hours
    b. If you have been placed on financial aid suspension, please refer to your letter which will indicate your PACE percentage and credit hours needed to meet the PACE rate
  2. Cumulative grade point average (GPA)
    a. Minimum of 2.0 for undergraduate students
    b. Minimum of 3.0 for graduate students
    c. Your GPA can be re-evaluated if it does not include your transfer hours
  3. Maximum time frame in which to complete a course of study
    a. First bachelor’s degree is limited to 150% of required hours for the degree
    b. Students working on a second degree are evaluated at 225 hours toward a second or subsequent degree
    c. Graduate students may not exceed 150% of the published length of the educational program. Additional graduate programs are NOT evaluated independently.

This policy applies to all semesters of enrollment, not just those in which financial aid was received. All Wichita State University credit hours and all transfer credit hours (including military hours) recorded by the WSU Registrar’s Office will be evaluated when monitoring PACE, cumulative GPA, and maximum time frame. This information will be available in your Financial Aid Dashboard under the Satisfactory Academic Progress tab. You can click on the V to expand the box to view additional information about your SAP status.

Failure to maintain SAP guidelines for federal financial aid will result in financial aid suspension and the loss of federal aid eligibility. If you don’t believe you will meet your academic plan, please contact the Financial Aid Office to schedule an appointment with a financial aid advisor.
