Students or parents who file an amended tax return cannot use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool (DRT) to verify their amended income and tax information. Note:Beginning with 2024-2025 FAFSA award year, all individuals on the FAFSA will be required to use the IRS Direct Data Exchange to share tax information or confirm non-filing status. If you used the DRT/DDE while completing your FAFSA and then subsequently filed an amended return, you will need to provide one of the following documents in order to complete verification:
- A signed copy of the IRS Form 1040X (amended tax return) that was filed with the IRS,
- An IRS Account Transcript (after the 1040x has been processed by the IRS), or
- An IRS Record of Account Transcript (after the 1040x has been processed by the IRS)
