Wichita State University offers a variety of scholarships such as merit scholarships, academic college scholarships, and new-student scholarships awarded through competition. New WSU students
Freshman Merit Scholarships
Freshman Merit Scholarships do not require an additional scholarship application beyond the application for admission. These renewable awards are determined from high school GPA and national test score (ACT/SAT). The priority deadline for these scholarships is December 1, and the final deadline is February 1.
Transfer Merit Scholarships
Transfer Merit Scholarships do not require an additional scholarship application beyond the application for admission. To be eligible, you must be directly transferring to WSU from another institution as a degree-bound major and working on your first bachelor’s degree. Must have at least 12 and no more than 75 transfer hours at the end of the fall term prior to fall enrollment. These renewable awards are determined from your cumulative transfer GPA. Honors College Merit Scholarship
The Honors College Merit Scholarship is a $1,000 scholarship, which is awarded as $500 per year for two years. This scholarship may be combined with the Freshmen Merit Scholarships. To be awarded, you must meet eligibility requirements and be accepted into the Honors College.
National Merit Scholarship
National Merit Scholarships has an estimated value of $50,000 over four years (approximately $20,000 in year one to assist with on-campus housing costs, and $10,000 per year afterward). These renewable scholarships are open to National Merit Finalists and National Hispanic Recognition Finalists.
Note: All Merit Scholarship recipients must accept award offer by May 1. You must be enrolled and your final official high school transcript must be received by July 1 to avoid having scholarship withdrawn.
Clay Barton Endowed Scholarship
The W. Frank Barton School of Business at Wichita State University invites graduating seniors who have declared a business major to compete in the Allen, Gibbs, and Houlik Scholarship Competition. Scholarship awards will be given to the top finalist and the final selection will be awarded the $48,000 Clay Barton Scholarship.
Distinguished Scholarship Invitational (DSI)
A variety of scholarships are awarded to incoming freshmen DSI participants, including two $64,000 Harry Gore Memorial Scholarships. Eligible admitted students will receive an invitation to compete in DSI during the fall semester of their senior year of high school.
Doris and Ralph Klose Scholarship Competition
This exciting competition is held each November for high school seniors who declare a major in math or science education at WSU. Scholarships are awarded based on GPA, ACT composite scores, SAT score and results of the hands-on competition. Winners of the competition will be offered a financial aid package that includes a combination of scholarships. The Klose Scholarship covers the average cost of tuition, books and fees during the junior and senior year as long as eligibility is maintained.
Fran Jabara Endowed Scholarship
The W. Frank Barton School of Business awards two $25,000 Professor Fran Jabara Endowed Scholarships each year to students majoring or double majoring in entrepreneurship. The scholarship is awarded over a four-year period.
Joan Hargrove Political Science Scholarship
The Joan Hargrove Political Science Scholarship is a $32,000 scholarship, awarded to an incoming freshman student majoring in political science.
The Lenora McGregor Endowed Scholarship
The Lenora McGregor Endowed Scholarship awards up to $26,000 for up to four years of study to an incoming first-year student who has demonstrated academic excellence in the past, has an academic vision for the future, and who expresses an interest in advancing knowledge through individual learning.
Wallace Invitational for Scholarships in Engineering (WISE)
The Wallace Invitational for Scholarships in Engineering (WISE) is an exciting competition held every fall for high school seniors interested in studying engineering at WSU. Ten $28,000 scholarships are awarded based on GPA, ACT math and ACT composite scores, and results of the hands-on competition consisting of a group design challenge and a written essay.
The Rudd Scholarship Program
This is a Kansas program for Kansas residents who qualify for Pell Grant and have the grit and determination to achieve their long term goals. It is a competitive 4-year award designed to pay any remaining costs associated with tuition and fees, books and supplies, and food and housing after accounting for all other grants, scholarships and financial awards.
Returning Adult Student Scholarships
Wichita State is proud to be the only university in Kansas to offer the WSU Osher Reentry Scholarship Program for returning adult students. The Osher Scholarships are designed to help undergraduate students who have experienced a five-year cumulative gap in their education.

Academic College Scholarships
The academic colleges of Wichita State University award more than $2 million of scholarships annually to current students. Each college has its own application process and deadline.
SGA International Student Scholarship
The SGA International Student Scholarship is provided through the Student Government Association for international students planning to continue their education. Applicants must be full-time undergraduate or graduate students who have completed at least one semester of study at WSU.
African American Faculty and Staff Association
One of our major goals is to assist WSU students with tuition and or school supplies. AAFSA gives away five $250 scholarships per year.
Koch Discovery Scholarship Program
Koch's Discovery Scholarship Program is designed for college students who are innovative and eager to apply their knowledge and ideas to help society. The Discovery Scholarship Program offers more than $60,000 annually to students. The program also provides mentorship opportunities from global business leaders at Koch companies.
