How do I apply for summer aid?

Summer aid is offered according to your remaining annual eligibility, fund availability, and your enrollment. If you did not use all of your eligible aid for fall and spring, you may have some aid remaining to use for summer based on general eligibility requirements. Wichita State University does not typically offer scholarships for summer.

Which FAFSA form do I need for summer aid?

  • Summer 2025: 2024-2025 FAFSA
  • Summer 2026: 2025-2026 FAFSA

Application process

  • The Summer Financial Aid Application opens when summer enrollment begins, typically the first or second Monday in April.
  • Priority Date for Summer Aid: May 1
  • Complete your FAFSA for the corresponding aid year. You do not need to complete a new FAFSA form if you already have one on file from the previous fall and spring semesters
  • Enroll in summer classes and be admitted to a financial-aid-eligible degree program.
  • You must be enrolled in a financial aid-eligible degree program.
  • After you have enrolled, apply for summer aid through myWSU > Select the myFinances tab located in the Financial Aid Links box > click on Apply for Summer Financial Aid.
  • Allow up to 3 weeks after you have submitted your application for the review of your summer financial aid eligibility.

Eligibility

  • In most cases, if you are eligible for the Pell Grant and are enrolled for summer, the funds do not require a minimum number of credit hours (beginning with the 2024-2025 academic year); however, your Pell Grant will prorate and adjust as you add/remove hours up to a maximum of 12 credit hours, similarly to how it adjusts during the fall and spring semesters. The initial Pell Grant offer for summer will be based on your enrollment at the time your offer was developed.
  • If you have exhausted all of your annual financial aid resources, please review alternative funding options at https://www.wichita.edu/administration/financial_aid/nofederalaid_summer.php.
  • Additional forms of payment can be found at What are my options for making a payment?.
  • You may be eligible for work study during the summer. However, if you are not taking summer classes, your summer work study earnings will be deducted from the upcoming academic year's aid offer.
  • If you are eligible for summer aid, the amount of aid will depend on your enrollment status, and if offered student loans, you must be enrolled at least half-time in order for the loans to disburse.
    • Full Time: 12 credit hours in the summer is considered to be full-time for undergraduate students and 6 credit hours for graduate students.
    • Half Time: 6 credit hours in the summer is considered to be half-time for undergraduate students and 3 credit hours graduate students.
