What are the parking rules?

Parking Rules
Wichita State University has a license plate recognition system that requires all vehicles to have license plates visible and unobscured from the aisle to verify that your vehicle is registered and eligible to park on campus. Physical permits are not issued. The following is a partial list of parking rules:

  • If your license plate is on the rear of the vehicle, backing into a parking stall or pulling through is not allowed (this rule does not apply to vehicles with a disabled parking plate or placard)
  • Park inside the boundaries of the parking space
  • Do not park in handicap space without proper license or hangtag
  • Do not park in an incorrect lot or reserved space

Visit our website for a complete list of traffic regulations.

Where to park and cost per parking lot or space
Parking lots will have a color coded sign at each entrance that will help you identify whether or not you may park in that lot. Motorcycle parking will have a painted area rather than a sign. Parking fees are prorated based on the number of weeks in the semester.

Please see ePermit Fees Chart for current fees per parking lot or space.

Please see Shocker Parking Map for parking lot locations.

Parking at the Steve Clark YMCA, lot 40, is limited to two hours and is only available to those who are using the YMCA. Citations will be issued to those who park for longer than two hours or use the parking lot while not in the YMCA. Because of ongoing unauthorized parking in the lot, fines will be doubled for those who receive a citation. This is enforced at all times.

Students are not allowed to park in the Student Wellness Center from 7am - 5pm, Monday through Friday. These are designated spaces for students with appointments for health services and counseling.

Parking permits for The Flats underground lot must be purchased at the WSU Police Department.
**A debit or credit card must be used to pay for hourly parking at the pay station.

ePermits for RED lots
Anyone can now purchase a red parking space including students, visitors, faculty or staff members! See the ePermit pricing chart above for more information.

If you purchase a red reserved space, you are only allowed to park in the space that is assigned to you. You cannot park in any other red reserved stall since that belongs to someone else. Please email wsuparking@wichita.edu to discuss possible stall locations. If you do not know the location of your parking stall, please call the WSU Police Department at 316-978-3450.

Visitors
If you are a visitor to our campus (never been admitted, registered or affiliated with WSU), your first three (3) visits to campus are free in lots with green or yellow-and-green-striped signage. If you are a visitor and plan to visit campus more than 3 times per semester, you may purchase a one-day ePermit or you may purchase a frequent visitor ePermit. If you park in the parking garage, you can also pay by the hour at the pay stations located on each floor.

Disabled parking
If you have a state disabled parking placard or plate, you are now required to register a vehicle(s) and purchase an ePermit. You will be asked to upload your Disabled Identification Card at the time of purchasing the ePermit to eliminate your risk of receiving a citation. You may park in the marked accessible parking stalls across campus. If those stalls are full, you can park in an available stall not posted as restricted or reserved.

Please note that if you are a disabled veteran, you can complete a Disabled Veteran Parking ePermit Request Form and submit with proper documentation so you will not be required to pay to park.

NOTE: If you currently have an active ePermit and need to submit your Disabled Identification Card, include the following information in an email to wsuparking@wichita.edu:

  • Name
  • myWSU ID (if applicable)
  • Phone number
  • License plate number

Free park-and-ride option

If you choose not to purchase an ePermit, you may use the free shuttle service from the satellite lot at the Metropolitan Complex (Metroplex) located at 29th and Oliver when classes are in session. There are three shuttle routes available for your convenience. Shuttles will not run when ePermits are not required.
