How long will an "I" (Incomplete) stay on my transcript before it becomes an "F" (Fail)?

An Incomplete is a temporary grade assigned when the faculty member grants you an extension of time to complete necessary coursework or exams. This extension of time may not exceed one calendar year from the end of the original semester. It is used in exceptional cases where you are unable to complete coursework due to circumstances beyond your control. To qualify for an Incomplete, you must have successfully completed a majority of the work. Once you have completed the coursework, the faculty member submits a change of grade via the online portal. Credit is postponed and the course is not included in your grade point average until a permanent letter grade is assigned. When an incomplete grade is assigned, the faculty member may assign a default grade, other than the "I" grade. If the coursework is not satisfactorily completed by the extension date, the "I" will revert to the default grade. If no default grade was submitted and the coursework is not satisfactorily completed by the extension date, the "I" will revert to an "F."

Note: If your instructor assigns an Incomplete, you should not re-enroll in the class. Instead you should work with your instructor to complete the coursework to avoid paying for the class again.
