Process Overview:

When will I get my I-20?

  • When an International Student calls in and asks, “When will I get/receive my I-20?” They are most likely asking if they have been admitted yet.

Advisor Instructions:

DO: Confirm if the caller is Undergraduate or Graduate.

To find the information regarding their admission and when their I-20 would have been sent, please refer to the following areas:

Admission Decision - make sure they are admitted (if questions, refer to article: Admissions: Decision Codes and Explanations - INTERNAL)

Checklist -

Undergraduate or Intensive English Student:
When a student’s I-20 is sent out, a code is placed in their checklist. Each code is specific as to how the I-20 information was sent out to the student and will list the form of delivery as well as date.

The list of codes and what they mean:

  • IZAM – Sent by Airmail
  • IZDH – Sent by DHL
  • IZFC – Sent by US First_Class Mail
  • IZFE – Sent by FedEx
  • IZGP – Sent by express mail
  • IZPU – Available for pick-up

When you see one of these Item Codes in Checklist – this means the I-20 was sent and on the date highlighted under “Status Date”. The tracking number if available is also listed in “Instructions to Student

Graduate Student:
When you see the “GZZI” Item Code in Checklist for Graduate Student – this means the I-20 was sent and on the date highlighted under “Status Date”. The tracking number for item is also listed in “Instructions to Student” IF the student paid to have the I-20 sent by DHL.

In the example below, you will see a Graduate student has been admitted and their I-20 was sent via email:
