Changing your Password over Global Protect VPN

Description

If you change your password while off-campus, you won't be able to log-in to your university-owned computer with your new password until you connect to the campus network, either by plugging into the wired network, using WSU Secure wifi, or the university VPN using the GlobalProtect VPN.  You may still use your old MyWSU password to log into the machine until it has been updated with the new MyWSU password.

The password used to login to your university owned-computer while off-campus will not update to your newly created MyWSU password until the following steps are completed after changing your password on your MyWSU home page.

The instructions below will assist you with updating your computer password over VPN.

Instructions

Before you start please ensure you have the GlobalProtect VPN installed on your machine.

On a university-owned Windows computer

  1. Log on to the machine using the old MyWSU password.
  2. Verify you are connected to the VPN using Global Protect.
    • You will be prompted to enter your MyWSU Id and new password.
      • If you didn’t receive the prompt, you have to clear your saved credentials
        • Open the GlobalProtect menu by finding and selecting the Globe symbol in the lower right of your screen.
        • Select the gear icon, select settings. The menu where you can clear your saved credentials will be opened. Select sign out.
  3. Lock your computer using Windows key + L or by clicking Start > MyName> Lock
  4. Unlock the computer by entering your new MyWSU password in the password field.

On a university-owned Mac computer

  1. Verify you are connected to VPN.
  2. Lock your computer by clicking the Apple menu > lock screen
  3. Unlock the computer by entering your new password in the password field
    • NOTE:  You may have to reboot the Mac at least once for this procedure to work

Additional Information

  • For off-campus computers, until you have updated to the new MyWSU password you may log in to the machine with your old password.
  • If you are not on campus or connected using the VPN, you will not be able to use the "change password" function (Ctrl+Alt+Delete) on a Windows computer to change your MyWSU password.
  • All other WSU services (email, Banner, Reporting Services, Chrome River, Self-Service) will require your new MyWSU password.
