Why do I have a negative balance on my account?

If you have a credit balance (negative amount) on your account, it could be due to one of the following reasons:

Dropped Class(es)
If you dropped a course within a refund period, you may have negative charges on your account with detail codes starting with T’s and F’s (examples: T101, FSTU, FENP). All refunds from dropping courses go through an audit process that can take up to four (4) weeks to complete.

  • If you paid for your classes out-of-pocket, you may be eligible for a refund.
  • If you paid for your class(es) using financial aid, please click here to view how dropping a course may affect your financial aid.

Financial Aid Disbursed
If you paid for your classes before your financial aid was awarded, you may see negative charges on your account with detail codes starting with S’s and R’s (examples: SDEF, RDLA, RBLB, RPEL). Refunding of excess financial aid can take up to 14 days to process.

Overpayment
This means that payments you made are greater than the charges on your account. Overpayment on your account does not guarantee a refund. If you would like to know if you are eligible for a refund, please contact Accounts Receivable. If you have overpaid on your account and wish to find out if it is possible to cancel your payment, please click here.

If it has been determined that you should receive a refund, please click here to check the status.

Note: Please allow 10 business days from the date your refund (direct deposit or refund check) appears on your Wichita State University account before contacting Accounts Receivable.
